Track Name: The Powerful One
When I was young I thought I was right
but soon they told me I had no rights
I believed from the books that love conquered all
That’s the kind of thing you say when you’re small

I came soon to realise there’s no room to riot
The ones who got on bow their head and kept quiet
Just as well I kept my dreams to myself
That’s the only way to be true to yourself

All we ever did was for the Powerful One
All we ever did was for the Powerful One

All the dreams we had were of the Powerful One
All the dreams we had were of the Powerful One

All the lies that we spoke were for the Powerful One
All the lies that we spoke were for the Powerful One

When I grow up I thought I’d change things and blame things
When I grow up I thought the world could be made better, if I get it
But soon they stopped me from trying, I’m crying
Soon they stopped me from believing, I’m leaving

Now I regret that I didn’t see the light
Now I know that they were always right….

All we ever did was for the Powerful One
All we ever did was for the Powerful One

All the dreams we had were of the Powerful One
All the dreams we had were of the Powerful One
Track Name: Evergreens
The morning of harm arrived with the sun rise
I was the mark, drawn wide of the line –
The warning you gave was buried in silver
And no other way might interrupt mine.

For though I was of the best intentions
For though I was always inspecting the heights
The traffic on the A-road blinks conspiring
And all I see are the blinding lights

The evergreens are shedding their needles
The sun in the sky is white as a bone
I hadn’t been awake for more than an hour
And all I will see I will never be shown
Track Name: Girlfriend
Shall I tell you that I want you?
Shall I tell you that I love you?
Shall I tell you that the man you are seeing is no good for you?
I want you as my girlfriend
I want you as my life blend
I want you as the girlfriend
Who will stay with me.
Track Name: Is this about Francis?
Is this about Francis
Is this about the world we knew
Is this about Francis
Is this about the parvenu?
Is this about Francis
Is this about the secrets kept
Is this about Francis
Is this about why Jesus wept?

Down and out outside the Messerchmitt museum
He came upon a truth he knew he must share with the world
Walked along the autobahn then had a bowl of sauerkraut
And washed it down with a jug of cold Warsteiner

And that’s how we know what happened to Francis –
Choked to his death sitting quietly in the bierkeller
Seems the vultures were circling before he’d made the call,
The only identification of him a lost luggage ticket for St. Pancras

Inside the locker was an old Nokia mobile phone
The SIM was still working and there was one number in memory
There was a woman at the end of the phone
And she said “is this about Francis?”

Is this about Francis
Is this about the world we knew
Is this about Francis
Is this about the parvenu?
Is this about Francis
Is this about the secrets kept
Is this about Francis
Is this about why Jesus wept?

Seems he was a drifter who kept bobbing above the line
An odd job here, a few deutschmarks, and he’d move on to the next town
Told stories to English tourists of how he once was a terrorist
Had run messages for the Baader-Meinhoff

He was born in Dudley, but his father was in the regiment
Stationed in Germany after the war, he liked meta-amphetamines
His childhood love of electronics meant he was a useful man to know
Industrial cryptographer and made synthesizers from spare parts

Told Ralf Hutter to ditch the flutes and guitars –
But what did an English drifter know about future sounds –
He listened to Xenakis and smuggled West German visas –
Had a child he never knew about, her mother moved to Scotland.

Is this about Francis
Is this about the world we knew
Is this about Francis
Is this about the parvenu?
Is this about Francis
Is this about the secrets kept
Is this about Francis
Is this about why Jesus wept?
Track Name: Gigs are a Contact Sport
I know three things and three things only
One I’m lonely
Two I love you more than I ought
Three that gigs are a contact sport
Track Name: Stormheart
Aint much of a stormheart
much more of a calming feeling
which way that the wind blows
it can’t express the way I’m feeling.

She’s much more of stormheart
shes the eye of a hurricane
looks great in the tempest
walks wild in the coming rain

so much for the stormhearts
so much for the clearing breezes
so much for the stormhearts
so much as the evening freezes

we were more than a stormheart
we were caught in a calming feeling
love lost for a stormheart
calm breeze in a cooling evening

that’s what is stormheart
that’s what is a stormheart
that’s what is a stormheart
that’s what is a stormheart
Track Name: Murder Suspect
I’m a man of a certain age
and I fit the profile you’ve displayed
I live in big house alone
And that’s enough to make me known

I must be your murder suspect
I must be your murder suspect

I’ve been known to be seen talking to myself
and noone knows weher I get my wealth,
I’m courteous to kids and girls
That makes me weird in your world

I must be your murder suspect
I must be your murder suspect

I smoke cigars and listen to jazz
And my hairs grey and curls like mad
I look like something from history
And read books of poetry

I must be your murder suspect
I must be your murder suspect

I’m shabbily dressed with 2nd hand clothes
and whispers say “he’s one of those”
I ride the bus, and drink green tea
The nutter on the bus won’t sit by me

I must be your murder suspect
I must be your murder suspect
Track Name: You Will Know Your Friends
Some will survive
Be all your life
Some others go
You barely know
You will know your friends
You will know your friends
You will know your friends
You will know your friends
Track Name: (I go) Via
I go via
I go via
straight into the fire
I go via
via
via
via

Have I told you my direction
It may seem a strange selection
I’ve been stung by your deception
And I want to change perception….

My route might be a dumb thing
But at least I’m trying something
Though my way is not done thing
I prefer to try and run things

I go via
I go via
straight into the fire
I go via
via
via
via

I have given up the main thing
Cos I’m fed up of the same things
There’s a room for insane things
And I never want to name things

If I gave up on drinking
Would it change your current thinking
Can’t you see the way your sinking?
I just want to get an inkling

I go via
I go via
straight into the fire
I go via
via
via

Track Name: International Space Station
When you look above you
The clouds suddenly clear
The International Space Station
Is everso near

When you look above you
And gaze into the spheres
The International Space Station
Has been up there for years

When you look above you
The clouds suddenly clear
The International Space Station
Looks everso near

When you look above you
And gaze into the spheres
The International Space Station
Has been up there for years

When you look above you
And see something appear
The International Space Station
Looks everso near
Track Name: Emma Grey
If I had an aeroplane I’d fly
a thousand miles away from here
and still I don’t know why
you had to leave….

If I had a ticket into space
I’d not treat it as a race
but give it up at once
for one more chance

But if I had a portrait of the Queen
I’d laugh in that obscene face
and tell her what I’d seen
in this land of hers…

If I had a moment at trial,
I’d just sit and smile
Knowing you were there,
Depending on me…

If I had a revolution time
I would stand and fly the flag
for lovers of all kinds –
who’d defend your love crime

I love you Emma Grey
Right next to you is far enough away
