about

In September 1985 I used a 4-track for the first time and began recording new material, having discarded the Bonbon Experiment name in the summer. In two weeks before starting university, and again in a fortnight at Christmas, I recorded two full cassettes of music "This is International" and "Kinesis Kinetik." The best tracks from each would end up on my new "official" album as The Folly, "Mortal Mime." This was mostly electronic and spacey - long instrumental tracks over a persistent arpeggiated groove such as "The Wasp Factory" or "Kinesis Kinetik", or multi part "suites" like the epic "Myriads (Pt.1-4)". Interspersed with these instrumetnals were a few short, melodic songs, "Understand", "Can I?". This two volume collection takes my music from September 1985 through to the end of 1986, by which time a second album "17 Schemes (of dare and folly) featuring the side long "Complexities (Pt.1-6)" and the more mixed - songs and instrumentals - "Entering the Adult Frame" had come out. On the first volume, six long instrumentals from "Mortal Mime" and "17 Schemes" are interspersed with short songs, including two tracks that were not released at the time, "Image of Love" and "From out of a cobweb falling."
